About Kilsture Hill
This isn't a peak that'll test experienced walkers, but that's rather the point. Families with kids aged eight upwards will manage it without fuss, and it's exactly the sort of outing that justifies a week in a holiday park without driving miles. The terrain's a mix of farmland and moorland - muddy after rain, so wellies are sensible - and the path's clear enough that you won't spend an hour trying to find the way.
You're looking at a couple of hours if you include the walk back down and a breather at the top. Free, obviously, as with most Scottish hills. Best in late spring or early autumn when the midges aren't out in force and the light's still decent by mid-afternoon.
If you're staying at Drumroamin Farm - which is barely a mile away - this is an obvious morning tick-box before lunch. Auchenlarie Holiday Park, further out near Loch Ken, would make it a proper expedition. On its own, Kilsture Hill is pleasant enough, but couple it with a wander round Newton Stewart itself and you've got a solid day sorted.
