Oneforty

The 140-foot television transmitter tower that gave Oneforty its name is a proper piece of 1950s engineering heritage standing just east of Borehamwood. It's become something of a landmark for locals and a curiosity for those driving through Hertfordshire - the kind of thing you notice, then find yourself asking questions about later. The tower itself isn't open to the public, but the site and its surrounding area mark an important chapter in British broadcasting history, and it's worth a quick stop if you're in the area to photograph or simply understand the landscape's post-war industrial heritage.

Histoy enthusiasts and broadcasting buffs will get the most from a visit here, as will anyone interested in mid-century design and infrastructure. It's not a destination that demands hours - fifteen minutes, thirty tops - but it adds context to the region's role in media development. The transmitter's a conversation starter more than a fully-fledged attraction, but that's often the point of exploring somewhere like Hertfordshire properly.
