Old Tree

You'll find this ancient woodland just outside Lutterworth, and it's the sort of place that makes you stop mid-stride and look up. The Old Tree itself is genuinely impressive - gnarled, vast, and clearly been standing here since before most of us were born. The forest around it is proper woodland, the kind with real paths and room to wander without feeling herded.

It works best for families with older kids who'll actually appreciate the walk rather than demand turning back after ten minutes. Adults who like a quiet bit of nature will get far more out of it than anyone chasing Instagram moments. The canopy's thick enough that even in summer it stays cool, which is useful if you're visiting during a heatwave.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared. Bring water, decent shoes, and check the weather - woodland mud is genuine mud. Allow a couple of hours if you're planning to explore properly rather than just snap a photo and leave.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Manor Farm is genuinely good value, and Meadow Field Luxury Glamping lives up to its ratings - this makes a solid half-day addition to your itinerary. It's not a dramatic peak experience, but it's real woodland walking within easy reach of Lutterworth. Worth the detour if you're in the area, especially if rainy-day entertainment is on your agenda.
