Old Plantation

A proper woodland walk through ancient trees, Old Plantation offers the kind of quiet forest experience that Norfolk does surprisingly well. You're moving through established woodland east of Glamping, where the canopy closes in and the usual Norfolk flatness gives way to something with actual texture and shadow.

The paths are straightforward enough - nothing technical, just solid forest floor walking. It's the sort of place where you actually notice birdsong because there's no road noise, and the light filters through in that particular way old woods manage. Families with younger kids will get a good hour out of it without complaint; older walkers might linger longer, especially if they're into spotting woodland plants or just sitting quietly.

Timing-wise, allow 90 minutes if you're not rushing. Spring and early summer are best - the woodland floor comes alive properly, and you're not fighting through summer midges. Autumn's decent too if you like that golden, damp smell.

It works perfectly as a break in a Norfolk park holiday. Both Searles Leisure Resort and Wild Luxury are within five miles, so you can base yourself at either and use Old Plantation as a morning walk before heading to the beach or grabbing lunch. The glamping sites are upmarket enough that you'll appreciate returning to proper facilities after a forest morning.

One thing worth knowing: there's no visitor centre, no ice cream van, no facilities to speak of. Bring water. It's forest, not attraction.
