Ogof Sinmai

Deep beneath the limestone hills above Llandudno, this cave system requires proper preparation and serious caving experience. Ogof Sinmai isn't your typical tourist attraction - there's no car park, gift shop or guided tours. What you get instead is raw underground adventure through narrow passages and caverns carved from ancient rock.

Experienced cavers will find a proper challenge here, with sections demanding crawling through tight squeezes and careful navigation. The cave extends much further than first appearances suggest, but don't expect dramatic cathedral chambers or underground lakes. This is technical caving territory.

Families with young children should give this one a miss entirely. You'll need headlamps, protective clothing and ideally local knowledge or a guide familiar with the system. The entrance can be tricky to locate without proper directions.

Conwy's position makes this an interesting addition to a North Wales caving holiday, particularly if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Lyons Pendyffryn Hall or Aberconwy Resort. Allow several hours if you're planning a full exploration, though beginners might find themselves turning back much sooner. Weather conditions can affect access, so check local advice before setting off. It's a rewarding cave for those with the skills to tackle it safely.
