A sprawling off-road adventure park near Bury that lets you loose on quad bikes, buggies, and various motorised vehicles across proper rough terrain. It's the sort of place where you actually get muddy - and that's rather the point.

The site offers everything from beginners' circuits to more technical tracks, so whether you're throttling a quad for the first time or you've done this before, there's something to get stuck into. Kids love it. Adults who want to pretend they're not kids love it even more. You can expect to spend anything from two to four hours here depending on how many rides you book and whether you're the type to keep having another go.

It works brilliantly as a break from caravan or glamping life - Kings Forest is just down the road, as are West Stow Pods and Willow Grove Farm if you're after something more upmarket. After an afternoon of bouncing around in mud, you'll be grateful for a hot shower back at base.

Bring old clothes. Seriously. Waterproofs too if the forecast looks dodgy, because wet ground makes everything more challenging and twice as fun. The nearest proper facilities and lunch options are in Bury itself, which is close enough for a quick trip. It's not the cheapest activity going, but if your group fancies something that actually gets the adrenaline up, it beats another museum visit by miles.
