The views from up here are genuinely excellent - the kind that make you understand why someone bothered building a platform in the first place. You're looking out across Cumbria's coastline with proper vistas in all directions, the sort of perspective that puts the scale of the landscape into focus. Millom's just down the way, which helps orient you if you're unfamiliar with the area.

It's a straightforward spot, this. You walk up, you stand there, you take in what's on offer. The platform itself does what it says - gives you height and a solid vantage point without fuss. Walkers tend to like it because it breaks up a route nicely and the effort-to-reward ratio works out. Families with youngsters will manage it fine, though there's not much to keep anyone occupied once you've absorbed the outlook.

Timing-wise, you're looking at maybe thirty minutes if you've come specifically for it, longer if you're working it into a bigger walk. Clear days are obviously better than murky ones - not rocket science, but worth checking the weather before you head over.

If you're based at Harbour Lights Campsite nearby - it's only 2.4 miles away - this could slot neatly into an afternoon outing. High Haume Glamping's a bit further out at 5.7 miles, but still workable. It's the sort of thing that's worth doing if you're in the area rather than something you'd specifically travel for, but the views make it a solid addition to a Cumbrian coast break.
