Oakwood Theme Park

The moment you walk through the gates at Oakwood, you're greeted by the sort of rides that make you question your life choices - in the best way. This is proper theme park territory, plonked down near Narberth in the heart of Pembrokeshire, and it's been pulling in families for decades now.

You've got your classics here: a wooden roller coaster that rattles like it means business, log flumes that will absolutely drench you (pack a spare shirt), and the sort of spinning rides that leave your stomach somewhere near your throat. The park isn't enormous - you can cover the main attractions in a solid day without breaking into a run - but that's rather the point. It feels manageable, not overwhelming.

Kids aged 5 to 15 will get the most mileage out of it. Younger ones have gentler spins and water rides, while older kids can tackle the proper adrenaline stuff. Teenagers might find it a touch small-scale compared to Alton Towers or Blackpool, but there's still enough to keep them entertained.

If you're basing yourself at Pembrokeshire Meadows Camping nearby, Oakwood works brilliantly as a day trip break from coastal walks and beaches. It's different enough from the usual Welsh holiday fare to justify a visit, though I'd recommend checking opening hours before you drive over - seasonal operations mean it's not open year-round. Summer holidays are your safest bet.
