Northstowe Green

Northstowe Green is a proper village green in the making - part of a new settlement being developed just outside Cambridge. It's the sort of place you might stumble upon while cycling between the city and the Fens, all open grass and new paths with a distinctly unfussy character. The green itself is free to wander round, and it won't take you long to get the measure of it - thirty minutes is enough unless you fancy sitting on a bench with a coffee from one of the nearby cafes that have started popping up.

This isn't a destination in itself, but it works nicely as a breather if you're basing yourself at one of the nearby campsites. Cuckoo Fen is just 2.7 miles away, and both Cuckoo Fen and Roseberry Tourist Park are five-star rated spots - the kind where you can actually relax. From there, Northstowe Green serves as an easy stroll or cycle ride, good for stretching your legs without heading all the way back into Cambridge's crowded centre.

Families with young kids will find it pleasant enough - it's safe, flat, and there's space to run around. Older children might find it a bit thin on activities; walkers will probably pass through rather than linger. The real appeal is for people wanting to experience how Cambridge's suburbs are evolving, or those who simply want a quiet spot between camping trips. It's authentic village green stuff, just very new.
