Highland Cow Cottage

There's a cottage near Cambridge that's become something of a local talking point, largely thanks to the Highland cattle that call it home. The animals themselves are the main draw here - those unmistakable long-horned beasts with shaggy coats that look far more intimidating than they actually are. You can spot them from the roadside, and it's the kind of thing that stops you dead when you're driving through the Cambridgeshire flatlands.

It's genuinely low-key. This isn't a working farm with admission fees and a gift shop - it's more of a roadside curiosity that people pull over to photograph. The Highland cows are relatively docile and used to visitors, making it decent enough for families with young kids who want to see some proper livestock up close without the formality of a full farm visit.

The location works well if you're based at one of the nearby parks like Roseberry Tourist Park or Long Island Lake and want to break up a flat Cambridgeshire holiday with something a bit different. On a clear day you can get decent photos with the wide skies behind them. Don't expect to spend long here though - fifteen minutes is probably your lot unless you're genuinely obsessed with Highland cattle.

Worth a detour if you're passing through the area, but plan to combine it with Cambridge itself or other nearby attractions rather than making it a destination in its own right.
