The leisure centre in Elland is a proper local hub rather than a destination in itself, but if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Elland Hall Farm or Two Acre Camping - it's worth knowing what's on your doorstep. The staff are genuinely helpful, and it's the sort of place where locals actually spend their time rather than somewhere you'd travel miles for.

Families with young kids will get the most from the pools, particularly if there's a shallow end or fun sessions running during school holidays. Serious swimmers might find the lap lanes a bit limited depending on what's on, and those after cutting-edge gym equipment should manage expectations - it's functional rather than fancy. The real advantage is convenience: if you're camped nearby and the weather turns, or you fancy a swim after a walk across the Pennines, you're sorted.

Opening hours and admission fees vary, so check ahead before you go. Allow an hour or two depending on what you're doing. It pairs well with exploring Hebden Bridge's independent shops and cafes just down the road, or tackling some of the proper walking routes that crisscross the area. On its own?
