Norr Hill

Scrambling up the bracken-covered slopes above Bingley, you'll find yourself questioning whether this modest West Yorkshire peak deserves the effort. At 368 metres, Norr Hill won't trouble any serious fell walkers, but it does offer surprisingly decent views across the Aire Valley once you've slogged to the top. The path isn't particularly well-defined - expect to pick your way through heather and the odd boggy patch. On a clear day, you can see across to Ilkley Moor and catch glimpses of the Yorkshire Dales beyond. Families with younger children might find the terrain a bit challenging, though determined teenagers will manage it fine. The reward is a proper sense of achievement and some lovely photo opportunities looking down towards Bingley and the canal below. Allow about two hours for the round trip from the nearest parking spots in town. Weather can change quickly up here, so pack accordingly even for what seems like a short walk. If you're staying at one of the holiday parks around Bingley like Harden & Bingley Park or venturing further to Bronte Country Park, Norr Hill makes for a decent morning's exercise before exploring the gentler attractions of Haworth and the Bronte Trail. Not spectacular, but satisfying enough.
