Ancient woodlands and sweeping moorland views make this country estate a proper Yorkshire ramble. The paths wind through established forests where you'll spot everything from bluebells in spring to red squirrels if you're lucky, then open onto elevated ground with cracking views across the Aire Valley.

Walkers get the best deal here - there's enough terrain to keep you busy for a good three hours, from gentle woodland strolls to more challenging climbs up to the estate's higher points. Families with older children will love it, though pushchair users might struggle on some of the steeper, muddier sections.

The Victorian mansion ruins add a touch of drama to proceedings, particularly atmospheric on misty mornings. Dog walkers are well catered for with plenty of open space, though keep leads handy during lambing season.

From Bingley it's an easy drive, making it a solid day out if you're staying at nearby spots like Harden & Bingley Park or venturing over from Bronte Country Park. The estate works well as part of a longer Yorkshire exploration - you could easily combine it with a trip to nearby Saltaire or the Bronte Parsonage at Haworth. Allow half a day if you want to do the estate justice, particularly if you're planning to tackle some of the longer walking routes that lead up onto the moors proper.
