Newport St Mary Church

You'll find this church in Newport itself, a proper medieval affair that's worth a quick look if you're staying nearby or passing through the town. St Mary's is the kind of place that rewards a five-minute wander - stone walls, a decent bell tower, and the sort of quiet churchyard where you can actually hear yourself think. The interior's fairly standard parish church stuff, but there's enough detail in the stonework to keep architecture types occupied for a bit.

It's not a destination in itself, frankly. You're not going to drive an hour to see it. But if you're based at one of the local parks - Llwyngwair Manor is barely a mile away, and The Hide sits just over four miles down the road - it makes sense to swing by on a morning stroll through Newport. The town itself has that understated Welsh charm that feels a world away from the tackier bits of Pembrokeshire. There's a decent little high street, a few decent pubs, and the river walks nearby are lovely.

Free to enter, obviously. No visitor facilities that I could find, so don't expect a tea room or gift shop. Allow maybe half an hour if you're the type to read all the plaques and have a proper look round. Genuinely pleasant on a quiet afternoon, less so if you're after a rainy day activity - it can feel a bit cold and dark when the weather's turned. Park families heading to Fishguard Bay Resort or The Hide might pop in out of curiosity, but it's really more of a nice-to-have than a proper thing to do.
