Newlands Corner

The views from Newlands Corner will stop you in your tracks. This viewpoint sits high on the North Downs near Guildford, offering sweeping vistas across Surrey's rolling countryside that stretch for miles on a clear day. You're looking out over proper countryside here - wooded valleys, distant hills, the kind of landscape that makes you understand why people move to Surrey in the first place.

It's a straightforward spot: a car park, a few benches, and the view itself. No café, no visitor centre, no faffing about. Free to visit, and you can be in and out in twenty minutes if you're just after the vista, or linger longer if you fancy a walk. The nearby footpaths are excellent - from here you can hike down into the valleys or connect with the Pilgrims Way if you're feeling ambitious.

Worth it? Absolutely, if you're camped at Chantry Wood or Edgeley nearby and the weather's cooperative. On a grey day it loses its punch, but catch it in late afternoon with decent light and it's genuinely lovely. Families won't get much more than the view and a stretch of the legs - there's no playground or activities - but it's an easy win if you're exploring the Downs anyway.

The closest base is Guildford, about ten minutes' drive away. Combine this with walks in the surrounding area and it's a solid half-day's activity, not a destination in itself.
