The Tay estuary shifts colour with the light here, and Newburgh Public Park gives you the best seat in the house to watch it happen. This nature reserve sits right on the water's edge near Perth, where the river widens out towards the Firth of Tay - proper dramatic stuff when the tide's in and the light hits it just right.

It's a straightforward spot: woodland paths, open grassland, and direct access to the foreshore where you can actually feel the scale of the estuary. Birdwatchers come here regularly. The mix of habitats means you'll spot waders, wildfowl, and the occasional osprey if you're lucky and patient. Families won't find structured entertainment, but kids who like scrambling about on banks and spotting wildlife will be happy enough for an hour or two.

The walk is easy - nothing steep, good paths through the trees. Allow an hour minimum, longer if you're the type to sit and watch. There's something genuinely absorbing about estuary light and the birds working the mudflats.

If you're staying at Snugs at Logie Farm just down the road - only four miles away - this makes an excellent morning outing before heading into Perth proper. The certificated sites nearby are limited, so plan ahead if you're caravan-based. Come when the tide's out if you want to see the full mudflat landscape; high tide compresses the view considerably.
