New Spinney

The woodland around New Spinney offers a proper escape from the Buckinghamshire flatlands, with mature trees and decent walking paths that feel surprisingly remote given how close you are to Wingrave. It's not dramatic - no steep slopes or dramatic vistas - but it's the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think.

You're mainly here for a walk, nothing more complicated than that. The paths wind through mixed woodland, and in spring there's bluebells if you time it right. Dog walkers clearly frequent the place, and families won't struggle with pushchairs on the main routes, though some sections get a bit muddy after rain. Reckon on 45 minutes to an hour if you're not dawdling.

The real value here is proximity. If you're staying at Wingbury Farm Glamping or Hill Farm And Orchard - both excellent spots - New Spinney makes an easy morning stroll without needing to drive anywhere. It's free, there are no gates or visitor facilities to speak of, so just turn up and go. The woodland isn't ancient or particularly unusual, but it's genuine working woodland, and that authenticity counts for something.

Not a destination in itself, then, but a cracking bonus if you're already in the area. Kids under ten might find an hour enough before asking for an ice cream, which tells you something. Worth the walk from your glamping site though.
