Ness Point

The most easterly point in Great Britain - that's what you're standing at when you reach Ness Point, just outside Lowestoft. It's a proper bit of geography made tangible, the sort of place where you can genuinely say you're further east than anywhere else in England. The actual viewpoint itself is fairly modest: a small grassy area with a marker, looking out over the North Sea. On a clear day the horizon stretches properly far, but this isn't Cornish drama or Lake District vistas. It's flat, windswept Suffolk coastline.

The walk to get there is actually better than the destination. You'll follow the cliffside path with decent views of the beach and sea, and the whole outing from central Lowestoft takes maybe forty minutes there and back. Walkers will appreciate it as part of a longer coastal ramble rather than a standalone stop. Families with young children might find it a bit anticlimactic - there's no cafe, no facilities, just wind and a marker. History enthusiasts will get more from nearby Lowestoft itself, which has proper heritage to explore.

Timing-wise, any season works, though autumn and winter can be bleak. Summer's obviously pleasanter but busier. If you're staying at Azure Seas, Pakefield, or any of the nearby holiday parks along this stretch, it's absolutely worth the short drive or bike ride over. Costs nothing, takes minimal time, and gives you bragging rights. Don't expect it to be the highlight of your holiday, but as a quick detour it does its job.
