Nebrow Hill

Standing 150 metres above the Severn Vale, this modest hill delivers surprisingly good views across Gloucestershire's patchwork countryside. The climb takes about 20 minutes from the nearest car park - nothing too strenuous, though the final stretch gets a bit steep through the woodland.

Walkers will appreciate the well-maintained footpaths that wind up through mixed beech and oak trees. The summit opens out into a small clearing where you can properly take in the panorama. On clear days, you'll spot Gloucester's cathedral spire to the southwest and the Malvern Hills rising in the distance.

Families with older children (say, eight and up) will manage the walk fine, though toddlers might find it a slog. The route isn't pushchair-friendly either. Dog owners love it here - plenty of interesting smells in the woods and open space at the top for a good run around.

This works well as a morning stretch-the-legs activity if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like The Riverside Caravan Park or Tudor Caravan Park. Allow an hour and a half for the round trip, including time to enjoy the view and maybe a picnic at the summit. Best avoided after heavy rain when the paths get properly muddy.
