Inside, it's not a massive undertaking. Allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're genuinely interested in how flour gets made. The National Trust has done a decent job explaining the mechanics without drowning you in technical jargon. Kids aged six to twelve will find the water wheel and the grinding stones engaging enough, though teenagers might find it a bit slow unless they're into industrial history.

It sits right in the city centre near the cathedral, so it works brilliantly as a stop between exploring Winchester's high street and the water meadows. If you're based at Holden Farm Camping - genuinely excellent spot that one, under five miles away - or Hookpit Farm just down the road, this is an easy afternoon diversion.
