National Trust - Lansallos

The church at Lansallos sits in a fold of the Cornish coast with the kind of quiet that makes you realise how much noise you're normally surrounded by. It's a proper little medieval affair, all granite and history, with St Idesbald watching over the village from his stone perch. You can wander round the churchyard, poke about the old graves, and get a real sense of how long people have been living in this particular spot - centuries of it, actually.

There's not a huge amount to do here in terms of attractions - this isn't somewhere you'd spend a full afternoon unless you're genuinely into ecclesiastical architecture or local history. But that's rather the point. Walk the coastal path nearby and you'll understand why people bothered building a church in such a remote place. The views across the water are proper stunning, especially on a clear day when you can see for miles. It's free to visit, naturally, and you can turn up whenever you fancy.

If you're staying at Tremeer Farm or Killigarth Manor just up the road, this makes a decent morning walk before heading to the beach. Families with older kids who enjoy coastal rambles will get more out of it than those after traditional attractions. The village itself - Lansallos - is tiny and has barely changed in decades, which is either a charm point or a reason to head elsewhere depending on your outlook. Worth the detour if you're in the area, but don't go out of your way specifically for it.
