Inside, the rooms tell a real family story across three centuries without the usual velvet ropes and overwrought interpretation boards. Plasterwork ceilings in the parlour are genuinely impressive. The gardens aren't manicured into submission either - there's a proper kitchen garden, a church (still consecrated and atmospheric), and enough ground to wander without feeling herded.

Historically minded visitors will spend a solid two to three hours here. Families with young children might find it less gripping after an hour - limited hands-on activity and period rooms don't always captivate under-tens. Walkers should factor in the broader estate walks, though these need checking locally first.
