National Trust - Baggy Point

The walk out to Baggy Point is what makes this bit of North Devon coast worth the trip. You head out along the headland from Croyde Bay, and the path climbs steadily until you're standing on proper exposed cliffs looking back across the sweep of beach below. The point itself juts out into the Bristol Channel like a defiant fist, and on a clear day you can see for miles - right across to Wales on a good one.

It's a National Trust-owned spot, so there's no entrance fee, just park near Braunton or Croyde and walk it. Allow two to three hours if you're taking photos and stopping for breath. The coastal path is well-trodden but can get muddy after rain, and the final approach to the point involves some steeper sections that'll test your calves.

This is squarely walker territory. Kids who enjoy a proper hike will get something from it, but toddlers will find it tedious. Photographers love it - the light changes constantly, and the rocky outcrops give you plenty to frame. History types won't find much on the ground, though the views have worked their spell on people for centuries.

Combine it with Croyde Bay itself - grab a coffee, maybe a surf lesson if the swell's up. Golden Sands Touring Park sits just three miles away and makes a decent base if you're doing the broader North Devon coast run. The whole headland area feels less rammed than some of the bigger beach towns, which is exactly why you should go.
