The walk up Mynydd Y Betws from Ammanford is straightforward enough, and on a clear day the views across the Carmarthenshire valleys are genuinely worth the effort. It's not a dramatic peak - nothing like Pen y Ghent or Ingleborough - but that's rather the point. You get proper countryside without the crowds.

The summit sits at around 1,600 feet, which means a decent climb if you're coming from the town itself, though nothing that'll have you gasping. The landscape up there is open moorland with that particular Welsh bleakness that either appeals to you completely or leaves you cold. Walkers and hill baggers will find it satisfying enough as part of a longer route through the Amman Valley. Families with young children might find it a bit slog-heavy for the payoff, but if your kids are used to hills, they'll manage fine.

There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of - no café, no facilities - so you're doing this properly. Bring water, decent footwear, and check the weather because exposure up there is real. The best approach is probably early morning in summer, when you'll have the light and hopefully some visibility.
