Mynydd Sylen

The walk up Mynydd Sylen rewards you with proper views across Carmarthenshire and out towards the coast if you time it right. It's not a dramatic peak - more of a steady pull up moorland rather than a scramble - but that makes it accessible for most people without needing to be a serious fell walker.

The summit itself is fairly bare, which means the views aren't blocked by trees. On a clear day you get a real sense of the landscape rolling away from you. The approach from the Llanelli side is straightforward enough, though you'll want proper boots if the ground's been wet. Allow about two hours return for a comfortable walk at normal pace.

This works well as part of a wider Carmarthenshire walking break, particularly if you're based at one of the nearby parks like Route 47 Glamping or River View Touring Park. You could easily combine it with other local walks rather than making it a destination on its own. Family groups with teenagers who can manage a couple of hours hiking will get on fine here, though younger kids might find it a slog without a specific destination like a café at the top.

It's free to access and there's no particular season that's massively better than any other - autumn can be muddy, summer can be busy with walkers. Spring and early autumn tend to offer the clearest views. The moorland character means it's exposed, so wind can be a factor even when lowland areas feel calm.
