Mynydd Mawr Country Park

The hill itself is the main draw here - Mynydd Mawr rises up from the Llanelli flatlands and gives you proper views across Carmarthenshire when you reach the top. It's a working nature reserve, so you're walking through actual habitat rather than a manicured park, which means it can feel a bit wilder than you'd expect this close to town.

The walk up takes a decent effort, especially if you're not used to hills. Worth it though. You get moorland, grassland, and on a clear day the views stretch far enough to make the climb feel justified. It's the kind of place where birdwatchers and walkers genuinely get something out of it - not somewhere you'd drag reluctant kids for a quick stroll.

If you're staying at Route 47 Glamping or River View Touring Park just outside Llanelli, this could fill a morning or early afternoon depending on your fitness. Allow a couple of hours minimum for the walk and taking it in. The reserve is free to access, though parking facilities and opening hours aren't clearly signposted online, so it's worth checking locally before you head up.

The real appeal is that it's proper countryside without feeling remote - close enough to Llanelli for supplies but far enough that you actually feel like you've left town. Best visited outside peak holiday times when it's less crowded.
