Mynydd Myfyr

The walk up Mynydd Myfyr rewards you with proper views across the Powys borderlands - the kind of vista that makes the climb actually worthwhile. It's not a massive peak, but the approach from Llanymynech is straightforward enough, and you'll pass through working farmland before reaching the summit where the landscape just opens up around you.

On a clear day you can see right across Mid Wales, which is the main draw here. There's nothing fancy at the top - no café, no gift shop, just you, the wind, and the view. It takes roughly an hour to an hour and a half to get up there depending on fitness, so it's not an all-day commitment. The terrain is mixed, partly wooded lower down, then more exposed as you climb.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's the sort of walk where you actually feel like you've gone somewhere, rather than just trudged around a designated path. Families with older kids who don't mind a proper hill will manage fine, but it's not ideal if you've got toddlers in tow.

If you're based at one of the local glamping spots - Sweeney Farm, Tanat Holiday Park, or Fairhaven - Mynydd Myfyr works well as a morning outing before heading elsewhere. It sits nicely in a wider walking circuit around the area without dominating your day. Head out early in the day when the light's best and you've got better odds of clear views.
