Muscle19

Muscle19 is a proper gym and fitness venue just outside Bridgwater in Somerset. It's the kind of place where locals go to train seriously - think weights, cardio equipment, and classes rather than anything touristy. You won't find much in the way of heritage or views here; this is a working sports facility, full stop.

If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - The Hideout, Mill Farm, Wall Eden Farm, or Thornhills - and you're determined not to lose your fitness routine while on holiday, this is your nearest option. Realistically though, you're coming to Somerset for the Quantocks, Exmoor, or the coastal bits around Burnham-on-Sea, not to spend your break in a gym. That said, if you're part of a group with mixed interests (some want to walk, you want to maintain your strength training), knowing it's only a few miles from your campsite takes the hassle out of it.

Check their website or ring ahead for opening hours and membership costs - standard gym facilities usually require some form of payment, though day passes are often available. Best time to visit would be off-peak hours if you're not a regular, probably mid-morning or mid-afternoon on weekdays. You'll need an hour or two at minimum to do anything worthwhile. For most park holidays in Somerset, you'll want other attractions in mind, but if you're serious about staying fit, Muscle19 fills a gap.
