Munscroft Coppice

Munscroft Coppice is a proper woodland walk just outside Hereford, the sort of place locals know about but most visitors overlook. You're threading through mixed woodland - oak, ash, and old coppice that's been managed for centuries - with paths that wind through undergrowth and over uneven ground. It's not dramatic or particularly Instagram-worthy, but there's something solid about it. The trees are genuinely old in places, and if you time it right, you'll have the wood mostly to yourself.

Walkers will get the most from this. Bring decent boots because the ground gets boggy in wet weather, and the paths aren't always obvious. You're looking at a good hour or two depending on which route you take and how easily you get distracted by moss-covered logs and the occasional roe deer. Kids might find it interesting for a bit, but there's no playground, no visitor centre, no facilities at all really - so manage expectations on that front.

It slots well into a holiday based at one of the nearby parks like The Shires or Kingfisher Meadow, both just 2.5 miles away. You could combine it with a wander around central Hereford's cathedral and riverside afterwards. Worth the detour if you're staying locally and fancy a proper forest walk without the crowds you'd get at somewhere more famous. Go early morning if you can - the light through the trees is decent, and you'll avoid meeting anyone else.
