You get open meadows where the view stretches out properly, tree-lined walks where it's genuinely quiet, and enough space that you won't feel crowded even on decent weather weekends.

There are trails through the trees, open areas to run about in, and genuine countryside feel despite being accessible from town. Not mountaineering - more of a gentle potter that actually rewards you with decent views across the valley.

The grass can get boggy after rain, so wellies aren't a bad shout. Come in spring when the woodland floor does its thing, or early summer when you can actually see where you're walking. Avoid peak Saturday afternoon if you value a bit of peace.
