About Mullachdubh
You'll get the best of it on a clear day. Midges can be murder in July and August, so April through June or September onwards is when I'd go. The walk takes a couple of hours each way depending on your pace, so allow half a day if you want to potter about at the summit.
It's free, naturally - just park sensibly near Strathdon and head out. The path is well-trodden but can be boggy after rain, so proper boots matter. Families with older kids who've done a few hills will manage fine. Younger ones might find it a slog, truth be told.
If you're staying at Cairngorms Glamping or Howe of Torbeg, both within a few miles, Mullachdubh works perfectly as a morning sortie before heading to the main Cairngorms attractions. It's not the showstopper peak in the range, but it's a genuine Highland walk that doesn't require you to be a committed fell-walker. Well worth the effort if you're in Strathdon anyway.
