Muldersleigh Hill

The walk up Muldersleigh Hill rewards you with one of those rare views that makes you understand why people bother with hills at all. It's a proper climb from Larne - nothing dramatic, but the legs know about it - and the summit opens onto the kind of panorama that stretches across Mid and East Antrim with genuine drama. On a clear day you're looking out across water and moorland, the sort of vista that justifies the huff and puff on the way up.

This is walkers' territory, absolutely. Kids will either love it or grumble the entire way up; depends on the child and how you frame it. The hike itself takes under two hours for most people, though you'll want longer if you're stopping to absorb the views properly.

Larne itself is modest - a working port town, not somewhere you'd build a holiday around - but Muldersleigh Hill proves there's serious walking country within easy reach. Get there early or late in the day if you can. The light's better, the crowds thinner, and you'll have the summit feeling mostly to yourself. Free, obviously. No facilities up there, so bring water.
