Mulderg

Mulderg isn't the sort of peak you'll find mobbed with selfie-stick tourists. It sits quietly on the Fermanagh-Omagh border, a proper hill walk rather than a dramatic summit scramble. The approach from Omagh direction is straightforward enough - moorland slopes that open out as you climb, with views across the drumlin country spreading below you.

Walkers will find the most value here. It's the kind of walk that takes a couple of hours round trip without being punishing, so families with kids aged ten-plus could manage it. The views aren't spectacular in the Alpine sense, but there's something rather honest about the landscape - rolling green hills, distant forests, the sort of terrain that makes you understand why this corner of Ulster has its particular character.

Timing matters more than most peaks. Morning light works best, and you'll want dry ground underfoot. Winter can be bleak and muddy. Spring through early autumn is your window.

If you're based at Gortin Glen Glamping, which sits just four miles away, Mulderg slots nicely into a walking-focused few days. It's close enough for a half-day excursion but far enough that you won't feel like you're retracing steps constantly. Pair it with exploring the Sperrins proper or the forests around Gortin - this isn't a destination on its own, but rather a solid addition to a walking holiday in the area.
