Moore's Covert

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Moore's Covert sits just outside Swadlincote and offers what you'd expect from a Leicestershire forest - mature trees, winding paths, and the occasional surprise of a clearing. It's the sort of place locals know well but doesn't advertise itself, which means you'll rarely fight through crowds even on a Sunday afternoon.

The woodland is ideal for families who want a gentle ramble without committing to hours on the trail. Most people spend 45 minutes to an hour here, moving at whatever pace suits the kids. The paths are manageable and the scale feels just right - big enough to feel like proper countryside, small enough that you won't get lost. Bring wellies if there's been rain, as the ground stays boggy in places.

It works brilliantly as a break between the nearby holiday parks. If you're staying at Bosworth Lakeside Lodges or The Dandelion Hideaway, this is close enough for a morning walk before coffee. The contrast with a lakeside lodge stay is useful too - you get woodland instead of water.

Don't come expecting dramatic vistas or historic features. This is straightforward forest bathing, nothing more. But if you're after a genuine breath of air between park activities or a place where restless kids can burn off energy without you needing a map degree, it does exactly what it says.
