Packington Meadow

An open sweep of grassland just outside Swadlincote, Packington Meadow is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan a day around. It's proper countryside - flat, green, the kind of space where you can actually breathe after a few hours of caravan site life.

There's not much to "do" here in the theme-park sense. No visitor centre, no interpretation boards, just meadow. Walk it, let the kids run about, maybe spot some birds if you're lucky. On a decent day it's a pleasant forty-minute stroll; on a grey one, less so. The appeal is straightforward: open air, not rammed with people, free to access.

If you're based at New Forest View or Fire & Stars - both within spitting distance - this is your escape route when you need ten minutes away from the site. Families with young children will get the most out of it; teenagers will be on their phones within five minutes. Walkers appreciate it as a gentle leg-stretch rather than a proper hike.

The meadow works best as part of a wider Leicestershire loop rather than a destination in itself. Pair it with a visit to Conkers Camping's surrounding woodland trails, or use The Dandelion Hideaway as your base and venture out here on a morning wander. It's honest, unpretentious stuff - no Instagram moment, just green space that does what it says on the tin. Go for the quiet, not the spectacle.
