Moel Y Don

The walk up Moel Y Don rewards you with proper views across the Menai Strait - on a clear day you can see right over to Snowdonia. It's not a long hike, which is the main appeal: roughly forty minutes up from the car park near Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, through fairly straightforward terrain that won't knacker you out before lunchtime.

What you get at the top is a trig point and the sort of 360-degree panorama that makes you understand why people live on Anglesey despite the weather. The water glints below, mountains rise in the distance, and the whole thing feels a bit more remote than it actually is. Families with teenagers will find it manageable; younger kids might struggle with the climb unless they're keen hikers.

Timing-wise, allow ninety minutes for the round trip if you're taking it steady and actually looking at the view rather than rushing back. Go early if the weather's cooperating - by mid-afternoon the cloud often rolls in. It's free to visit, obviously, being a hill with no facilities at the summit.
