Moel Farlwyd

The walk up Moel Farlwyd rewards you with views that stretch across Snowdonia in every direction - on a clear day you can see right across to the coast. It's a proper mountain experience without needing to be a fell runner. Most people tackle it from Blaenau Ffestiniog side, and it's a solid two to three hours round trip depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top.

This is one for walkers and hill enthusiasts rather than families with very small children. The terrain's rough in places, and there are sections that demand a bit of scrambling near the summit. The reward is that the peak itself feels genuinely remote - you won't find crowds queuing for the view like you do elsewhere in Snowdonia. Go early or late in the day if you want solitude.

There's no visitor centre, no facilities, no charge. Just the mountain. Bring water and decent boots, check the weather, and go. The slate landscape around Blaenau Ffestiniog gives the approach its own character - industrial history meeting raw Welsh hills.
