Minster Church

The Minster Church sits quietly in the landscape near Bude, a proper working parish church that rewards a visit if you're in the area rather than a destination to plan your whole trip around. It's a solid medieval building with that characteristic Cornish granite look - the sort of place where you half-expect to see cobwebs but find instead a community that actually maintains it. Step inside and you'll find the usual parish church setup: nave, chancel, decent roof timbers if you bother to look up. The stonework dates back centuries, though there's been the inevitable Victorian fiddling about.

It's genuinely free to visit, and you'll likely have it to yourself outside of service times. Give it twenty minutes, maybe thirty if you're into reading every memorial stone. The walk from Bude itself is manageable - nothing dramatic. Families with young kids won't find much to occupy them unless they're the sort who enjoy rubbings from brass plaques, but walkers exploring the North Cornwall coast will find it a sensible stop-off without feeling like a tourist trap.

Stay at Pencuke Farm Holiday Cottages if you want something proper nice with a five-star rating, or Rosebud Farm if you're heading with adults only - both put you within easy reach for a quiet morning visit before heading to the beaches Bude's actually famous for. The Minster works best as part of a wider meander through the area rather than a standalone reason to travel. Worth seeing if you're passing. Don't reroute your holiday for it.
