Otterham Park

The walk through Otterham Park takes you along proper riverside paths where you've actually got a decent chance of spotting otters if you time it right - early morning or dusk are your best bets. It's a working nature reserve just outside Bude, and the main appeal is straightforward: water, woodland, and the possibility of seeing wildlife that most people never get near in their daily lives.

The paths are well-maintained but can get muddy after rain, so decent boots matter. You're looking at anything from a gentle hour-long stroll to a more ambitious half-day walk depending on which routes you choose. The reserve itself doesn't charge admission, which is refreshing - this is conservation work that's open to everyone.

Families with younger children might find it bit quiet compared to a proper attraction with facilities, but older kids and anyone who actually enjoys walking without a gift shop at the end will get far more from it. Birdwatchers, photographers, and serious nature types will want to come back multiple times. The light changes everything here.

Stay at one of the nearby holiday parks - Pencuke Farm and Trewithen Farm are both excellent if you want something more thoughtful than standard caravan sites - and you've got a proper base for exploring North Cornwall's quieter corners. Otterham fits perfectly into a week where you're mixing active days with genuine downtime. It's not a headline attraction, but that's rather the point.
