Minnett's Hill

The walk up Minnett's Hill takes about twenty minutes from the car park near Grantham, and it's genuinely the best vantage point for miles around. You're standing at 423 feet - hardly Alpine, but in Lincolnshire that counts for something. The views sweep across the Vale of Belvoir, and on a clear day you can pick out the castle itself sitting in the distance like a child's toy on the landscape.

It's a proper walk rather than a stroll. The path climbs steadily through farmland, and the final push gets a bit steep, but nothing that'll trouble anyone with reasonable fitness. Families with young kids should budget an hour round trip, maybe longer if you're stopping for photos at the top. The summit rewards effort with long sight lines in every direction - this is the sort of place where you realise just how flat the Midlands actually is.

There's no visitor centre, no café, nothing fancy. Bring your own water. The ground can be muddy after rain, so sensible boots matter. Free to visit, naturally.

If you're staying at Wagtail Country Park just down the road, this makes a cracking morning outing before heading back for lunch. It's worth combining with a visit to Belvoir Castle itself - seeing both gives you proper perspective on the landscape. The hill itself isn't destination material on its own, but as part of a wider explore of the area, it's time well spent.
