Millom Park elevated viewing platform

The walk up to Millom Park's elevated platform takes you away from the town's rather ordinary streets and into something altogether better. Once you're up there, the views open right out across the Duddon Estuary and the coastal flats - proper expansive stuff. On a clear day you can see right across to the Lake District fells in the distance, which is no small thing given how close you are to the Irish Sea.

It's a straightforward viewpoint, nothing fancy, but genuinely useful if you want to get your bearings on where Millom sits in the landscape. The platform itself is modest - a raised structure that does the job without pretension. A good spot for photographers wanting to capture the coastline without driving miles. Walkers doing the longer Coastal Path routes will find this a natural pause point.

The actual walk up takes maybe ten minutes from the town centre, so it's perfectly manageable with kids or older relatives. You won't need more than thirty minutes total unless you're the type to linger with binoculars. Go early morning or late afternoon for the best light, and don't expect crowds - this isn't the sort of place that gets mobbed.

If you're staying at Harbour Lights Campsite just down the road, it's worth the leg-stretch before dinner. The walk itself is pleasant enough, winding through local streets and giving you a real sense of the town. Not a destination in itself, but a useful addition to a coastal Cumbria trip that might also take in the nearby glamping at High Haume.
