The Millennium Stone sits quietly on the outskirts of Strathpeffer, a modest granite marker that commemorates the year 2000. It's not going to blow your mind - let's be honest - but it's the sort of thing worth a quick stop if you're already exploring the village.

What you get is a straightforward monument marking the turn of the millennium, the kind of thing every settlement put up around that time. It's free to visit and takes about five minutes, which is exactly as long as you need. The real value is less about the stone itself and more about the excuse to wander around Strathpeffer proper, which is a proper Victorian spa town with actual character.

This works best as part of a bigger ramble through the Highlands rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at Highland Heights Luxury Glamping just down the road - and it's excellent if you want proper comfort with canvas - you could easily fit the stone in during a morning walk before heading into the village for coffee. History enthusiasts will probably give it a miss in favour of the larger monuments and castles scattered through the region, but families passing through won't mind the detour. The surrounding countryside is genuinely lovely, so it's worth combining with a proper walk rather than treating it as a standalone visit.
