Millburn Park

The walk through Millburn Park starts gently enough, following the burn upstream through proper woodland - the kind where you actually feel like you've left town despite being minutes from Bonhill. It's a nature reserve rather than a manicured park, which means overgrown bits, muddy patches, and the actual reward of spotting something wild rather than just looking at tidy borders.

What makes it work is the mixture. You get woodland paths, water features (the burn itself is the main draw), and enough open space that you're not claustrophobic. On a decent day the light through the trees is genuinely lovely, and if you're lucky with timing you might see water voles or birds that matter to people who know about that sort of thing. Most visits run two to three hours if you're not rushing, though you could do it quicker.

It's the kind of place that pays dividends if you're staying at one of the Loch Lomond glamping spots nearby - easy half-day jaunt when the weather's borderline. Families with under-tens get bored after forty minutes, but walkers and anyone wanting a proper woodland stroll without the Lake District crowds will find their time well spent. The river is the constant companion, which keeps things interesting without demanding much exertion.

Bring decent boots. The ground gets boggy in places, and it's worth doing after dry weather rather than following heavy rain. Free access as far as I could tell, no visitor centre or amenities to speak of.
