Mill Wood

Walk into Mill Wood and you're straight into proper Norfolk woodland - the sort of place where the light filters through in dusty columns and you can actually hear yourself think. It's a genuine working forest rather than a manicured country estate, which means mature trees, decent undergrowth, and paths that feel like they belong to the landscape rather than imposed on it.

The main draw is straightforward: woodland walking. You get a mix of conifers and broadleaves, with enough variation to keep things interesting across a couple of hours. It's ideal for families who want their kids to burn energy without the postcard-perfect pressure of a stately home visit, and proper walkers will appreciate having real forest floor beneath their boots instead of tarmac. There's also decent birdwatching potential if you're into that.

No frills to speak of - no visitor centre, no cafe, no entry charge that I could find. Just turn up and walk. Allow two hours minimum if you want to see what there is without rushing. The paths are reasonable but muddy after rain, so decent boots make sense.

For a camping holiday based at Deepdale or The Norfolk Brickyard - both within two miles - this sits nicely as a mid-morning detour. It breaks up the coast-and-cream-tea routine that King's Lynn visitors often fall into. Not a destination in itself, but genuinely useful if you're already in the area and want something green and quiet rather than another beach car park.
