Gravel Pit Plantation is exactly what it sounds like - a working woodland that's reclaimed what was once an extraction site, and it's now a proper place to walk if you're after something quieter than the coast.

You get woodland paths, the sort that feel genuinely isolated even though you're only a few miles from town. The mix of conifers and broadleaf trees means it changes character depending which way you wander. It's the kind of spot where dog walkers outnumber tourists, which tells you something.

Walkers will find this worthwhile. It's not dramatic - no dramatic vistas or rare birds to tick off - but it's solid woodland rambling on flat ground. Kids might lose interest after an hour unless they're the sort who genuinely enjoy just mooching about in trees. If you're camping nearby at Deepdale or The Norfolk Brickyard, it's an easy morning or afternoon option without needing to travel far.

No facilities that I'm aware of, so bring what you need. It's free to access as far as I can tell, though that's the sort of thing worth confirming locally when you arrive. Best visited outside peak holiday times when the trails feel genuinely peaceful rather than crowded. Not a destination in itself, but definitely worth knowing about if you're spending time in the King's Lynn area and want to break up a coastal holiday with some woodland time.
