Mill Pond

A modest expanse of water just outside Cardigan, Mill Pond is one of those places that rewards a quiet morning walk far more than a special trip. The pond itself is peaceful - reeds along the edges, trees reflected in the water, the occasional heron if you're lucky and patient. It's a proper local spot rather than a polished attraction, which means there's no entrance fee, no café, no crowds of day-trippers clogging up the car park.

Walkers will find it useful as part of a broader ramble through the area, though it's not a destination in itself. The water is lovely to look at, especially in golden hour light, but don't expect dramatic scenery or facilities. Families with young children might manage half an hour before restlessness sets in - it's the kind of place for a steady circuit and perhaps a spot of birdwatching if the kids are into that.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Cardigan Camping is barely a mile away, or there's Happy Campers and Cardigan Bay Holiday Park close by - it's absolutely worth a morning stroll. Pair it with a wander into Cardigan town itself, which has proper character and good independent shops. The Teifi Valley walks nearby offer far more dramatic terrain if you want something with a bit more backbone to it. But for a gentle, free potter on a quiet afternoon, Mill Pond does the job.
