The Victorian steam pumping station at Mill Meece stands as a proper monument to industrial engineering, just outside Stafford. If you're staying at Fledgling Farm just down the road, it's a worthwhile detour. The site's within walking distance, though opening arrangements can be patchy, so ringing ahead makes sense. Allow an hour tops. Copper Beech Glamping is further out but still reasonable for a morning visit before heading elsewhere in Staffordshire. The canal towpath nearby offers proper walking if you want to stretch legs afterwards. Not a destination in itself, but genuinely worth an hour if you're in the area and interested in what made the Industrial Revolution tick.
