Milford Haven Beach

The beach at Milford Haven is a working waterfront with character, not a sandy resort sprawl. You'll find a proper promenade running along the foreshore, with views across the Haven itself - a deep-water port that's been crucial to Wales since medieval times. The strand itself is shingle and sand, backed by Victorian and modern development, and it's the kind of place where you're as likely to see fishing boats and tankers as families with buckets.

It works best for people who want a coastal walk without the tourist theatre. The promenade is flat and easy, good for pushing prams or for older legs. The water's cold even in summer, and the beach isn't particularly sheltered - you'll want a windproof jacket more often than not. Kids might find it less exciting than a proper sandy beach; there's no donkey rides or arcades, and the industrial backdrop takes some of the seaside magic away.

The real appeal is the sense of place. This is a working town, not a holiday invention. There's a decent fish and chip shop, a few cafes where locals actually eat, and enough of a walk to justify an afternoon. Allow an hour or two depending on whether you fancy the full promenade loop.

Camping-wise, you're well positioned. Eco Escape is barely a mile away, while Grass Roots Caravan Glamping and Little Welsh Wood are both close enough for an easy drive. Pair it with a visit to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path sections nearby - the Haven itself offers proper coastal drama once you're away from the developed bit.
