Milford Community Meadow

Wild flowers carpet this community green space just outside Lymington, where local volunteers have transformed what was once ordinary grassland into a proper meadow habitat. You'll find native species like oxeye daisies, field scabious and red clover creating patches of colour throughout the growing season.

Families with young children will appreciate the flat, easy walking - there's no formal paths but the grass is well-maintained and pushchairs can manage fine in dry weather. Dog walkers use it regularly too, though you'll want to keep pets on leads during nesting season. The meadow works particularly well for kids interested in nature, with plenty of butterflies and bees to spot on sunny days.

Timing matters here. Visit between May and September when the wildflowers are at their best - earlier in the year it looks rather ordinary. Morning visits tend to be quieter, and the light's lovely for photos if that's your thing.

It's not a major destination in itself, more of a pleasant half-hour stop when you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Shorefield Country Park or Lytton Lawn Touring Park. Combine it with a trip into Lymington for supplies and you've got a nice little outing. The meadow feels genuinely peaceful despite being close to the main road - a proper slice of countryside that costs nothing and asks little of your time.
