There's a solid Methodist chapel in Maryport that catches your eye if you're wandering the town centre - proper red-brick Victorian affair with that characteristic austere charm. Built during the 19th century when Methodism was doing serious business in industrial towns across the north, it stands as a real reminder of how religion shaped working communities here.

Inside, it's modest but dignified. High ceilings, simple wooden pews, and that particular smell of old hymn books and furniture polish that takes you straight back. The stained glass is restrained rather than showy - typical Methodist restraint, really. You're not going to spend hours here, but it's worth a quick look if you're interested in social history or Victorian architecture.

Honestly, unless you're a chapel enthusiast or keen on industrial heritage, it's more of a tick-box than a destination in itself. But if you're staying at Harbour Side Caravan Park just down the road - which is excellent by the way - you might pop in whilst exploring Maryport's seafront and town centre. The whole area has that slightly weathered charm of a working coastal town that's refusing to fade away. Pair it with a walk along the harbour and a decent chippy tea, and it slots nicely into a quieter day of a park holiday. Free to visit as far as most chapels are, and you can wander in pretty much whenever.
